Dark Desires gun runners in this one I always liked the map and the decrypting of it by Trixie and Honey2012 ReviewAnd wrapping it up with 15 Mystery on the Mississippi Another one I like because Danets to o although Di ets left behind this time I enjoyed this one because it was really scary big time mystery with Trixie and Honey however illogical it seems Course of Action getting mixed up in the affairs of South Americanun smugglers Trixie Christmas Masquerades got a lot ofrief for this one for almost Skylars Outlaw getting herself and Honey killed but the boys left them and Mr Wheeler let them Stupidity runs rampant in this one what is in the water in Missouri Honey is unbelievably naive but then so is Trixie Still it s an exciting mystery and I enjoy it a lot How the heck does thisirl Blades Lady get to travel so much Wow this book took me what a week toet through I didn t enjoy it that much so that s probably the reason why I ve also been very busy as far as Easter so I haven t been reading a lot lately Hopefully that will change soon Onto the review I ve noticed this is the fourth vacation in a row the Bob Whites have taken so far When your best friends are rich I Learning Yii Testing guess you can reallyo places So this one was a bit boring There was a sterotypical evil person named Lontard which is actually an alias literally in another book I read the evil person s fake name was Lontard Oo who will stop at nothing to et something he wants which Trixie has even oing so far as to attempt to murder her Oooh aaaah There wasn t very much of the Bob Whites besides Honey and Trixie which I was disappointed about And no Jixie whatsoever NOOOO XD Trixie turns into a sissy as well Mr Wheeler was stupid to let them stay there for so long if I were him I would have sent them home right away And why on earth did the boys leave the irls in their hotel room after Trixie had almost died that morning Overall everybody s eyes were shining was too much and there were too many scenes that used too many descriptive words and just made me feel exasperated Sorry Two and a half stars out of five Trixie Belden and the Mystery on the Mississippi 1965 by Kathryn Kenny finds the all but one of the Bob Whites Diana is vacationing with her parents in St Louis Missouri The friends are invited by Mr Wheeler Honey and Jim s dad to travel with him as he takes a business trip While they have every intention of having a ood old fashioned vacation visiting a space rocket exhibit and following in the footsteps of Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer you know that wherever Trixie Communicating Effectively goes she s sure to stumble across a mystery that just needs solving In this adventure she and Honey haven t evenotten settled into their hotel room before it startsA briefcase with papers was left behind in their room and a very rude man bursts in and snatches it accusing the The Philosophical Journey girls of trying to steal his property After he leaves Trixie discover papers in the trash canraph papers with odd drawings on them just like those in the briefcase She and Honey become convinced that the man is a spy and the papers have something to do with. It's anchors away for Trixie as she travels down the Mississippi River No it's not on the old fashioned paddle wheel steamship she always dreame. The top secret space program When they keep seeing the man and his fancy car as they o about their vacation Trixie is even convinced that he s at the bottom of something nefarious She doesn t know how right she is and soon she and Honey will face their most dangerous situation yetTrixie Belden is one of the many young detectives whose adventures I followed when I was young I may not have been uite as dedicated in collecting her books as I was Nancy Drew I have all of the original hardback Drews but I was definitely on the hunt for Trixie stories when a new to me Nancy Drew mystery wasn t available Trixie whose first book was published in 1948 was in many ways a realistic character for a middle class irl to relate to I might have wanted to be Nancy with her roadster and the ability to travel anywhere in the world at the drop of a hat but it was far easier to see myself as Trixie the tomboyish irl with a uick temper I admired Trixie s determination to learn detecting as a skill so she and Honey will be able to open the Belden Wheeler Detective Agency when they are adultsRereading this particular story I m struck by how intense the danger really is I Agency when they are adultsRereading this particular story I m struck by how intense the danger really is I t remember the villains in any of the Trixie stories being so particularly nasty but this villain is discussing the ways in which he considers murdering the two irls It is uite intense for a young adultchildrens story from the time period Of course since it is a story aimed at the pre teen crowd the irls are rescued and there are no murders but the deaths he contemplates for them are very unpleasant I was also struck by the way Honey disagrees with Trixie over whether another person is involved with the plot It s my recollection that Honey is very loyal to Trixie and her hunches and instincts about people This TIME HONEY S INSISTENCE THAT SHE KNOWS PEOPLE PRETTY Honey s insistence that she knows people pretty and I d trust her with anything She s so motherly leads the irls into the trap that comes near to ending their detective careersStill this was a very entertaining read and it was fun to At Land go back and revisit a book from my childhoodFirst posted on my blog My Reader s Block Please reuest permission before reposting Thanks There s an actual mystery There s real conseuences to the mystery It makes sense And the best part Dan FINALLYets to On the Run go on a tripThis was one of my favorite books as a 10 12 year old and it s my favorite Trixie Belden mysteryRecommended 11 for scary situations a HUGE and most dedicated fan of Trixie and her crew This is odd of course because they were MEANT for teen and pre teenirls but I was a young boy that read everything he could et his hands on and when I first stumbled on my first TRIXIE BELDON BOOK I WAS INSTANTLY HOOKED book I was instantly hooked immediately sat about reading them all as uickly as I could et my Russian Winter greedy little paws on them Trixie is the star or lead character followed by Jim and Honey who uickly became the love of my young life I had a total crush on a fictional character that only existed in ink and this brave trio was constantlyetting into trouble solving mysteries and murders that sort of thing It falls along the line of the Hardy Boys Nancy Drew and other similar series but the Trixie se. D of but the trip is still exciting than she ever imagined Someone is shadowing her every move trying to steal to the mysterious raph papers Tr. Ries carries of the teenage angst and a subtle love triangle of conflicted who likes whom mystery that battles back and forth throughout the series All of the while though the same cheerful effervescent and energetic positive attitude and domineering never uitnever let them see down cheerful effervescent and energetic positive attitude domineering never uitnever let them see you down is the major subtext all through the books It is simply impossible to read these and NOT feel ood about yourself and about LIFE to have a sense of all is well in the world and a cheerful demeanor just naturally permeate your soul I know it SOUNDS crazy but it is true I lost all of my Trixie books years ago lending them to friends and that sort of thing Since then I have been on a uest to rebuild my collection of hardbacks I find most of them at Friends of the Library Sales and things like that but I am ever watchful at Pregnant Man garage sales and places for I do not have even a third of them built back This one held together much better than most of the others so kudos to the anonymous syndicate author The mystery is actually a mystery even if I m too old and cynical to have been fooled by the villains And there s plenty of action I can t help feeling Honey s fatherets roped into the Bob Whites crazy plans a little too easily but at least with this one there are plenty of adults running around who are very clear that a young detective however competent is no match for international thieves I liked the side characters even the bad uys and the tension was ood Very entertaining Trixie and the Bob White Kawaii Manga gang are off again to Mississippi this time They encounter a very baduy who actually talks about doing serious harm to Trixie and Honey Throughout the series Honey and Trixie find themselves in serious danger and this is one of those times They help to uncover a major smuggling ring this time but when they aren t involved in that they do The House Girl get to see historical Mississippi and track down several locales from Mark Twain s Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn This isn t one of my favorite in the series but it is still Trixie and any Trixie book willet a 5 star rating from me I loved rereading this book I The Accursed grew up reading the entire Trixie Belden series andrew with the characters They were as lovable as ever but strangely enough I didn t feel the same anxiety and fear for the characters this time round Wonder why that was May o back and read the entire series in order again A childhood favorite re visitedIs the story as ood as I remember YesWhat ages would I recommend it too Ten and upLength Most of a day s readCharacters Memorable several charactersSetting Real world pre computer pre air conditioning pre cell phoneWritten approximately 1965Does the story leave uestions in the readers mind Ready To Read Any Issues The read Any issues the or a recent publisher should cover Yes A slight mention of the time frame of the story as the teens are iven far freedom to come and o as they please than would be safe today Also the absence of computers cell phones and air conditioning in homes especially the mansionShort storyline Trixie Belden Honey Jim and her brothers work to catch the an international ring of un smugglers This is one of the daring and dangerous missions the.
